Fairies
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan

Song History
This song was inspired by faith. What is faith? Faith is believing and placing one’s hope in something or someone else. Faith is the power to keep one’s eyes fixed on the goal even when the goal cannot be seen! The fairies in the story ofCaptured represent faith to a certain degree. Sometimes we have dreams for greatness that seem far beyond our limitations as humans – yet we somehow muster the faith to believe anyway! If we limited ourselves to believing only what we could see would mankind ever invent or create anything? Having faith is a good thing. Where we place our faith can mean the difference between life and death. Be careful where you place your faith.
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
Fairies tend to vary and can have quite an attitude
Some can be quite merry
Some can practice less than gratitude
Mischievous and magical and more than a mystery
Bringing good from tragical and leaving quite a history.
Oh! Oh! Who can tame a fairy?
Oh! Oh! This will never be!
Oh! Oh! Who can claim a fairy?
Oh! Oh! And catch what can’t be seen?
Chorus
Oh! Lucky if I see one!
Oh! Fairy! Fairy Fay!
Oh! Lucky if I meet one!
What a simply wonderful day!
Verse
Flitting through the forest in the grand land of Make Believe
Or are the things we hope exist a part of true reality?
Something there to guide me in the grand land of In-Between
Between the realm of what I see and what I think that I can dream!
Oh!

Jidgel! Jidgel!
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
April 19/20, tadalafil 2012
Song History
The name for this character was invented by my son, Judah, when he was just a boy. He is one of the most creative people I know. One of Judah’s funniest ideas was the way he spoke about what he would call his one-day children. He told me that when he had a son he would call him Jidgel! I never forgot that and decided that this character’s name had to be Jidgel. Jidgel represents self-reliance and personal responsibility…and also a form of wisdom. Jidgel lives alone and fends for himself in the swamp, daring to live where others fear to tread. As a result, he sees through the trappings of government and superficiality of mankind and evokes a sense of accepting people just because of who they are and not for what they can do for him. Leonolis trusts him quickly once he discerns the wisdom coming from this feisty little man. Jidgel was one of my favorite characters to write. Young men and women, don’t hold others responsible for your attitudes and lot in life. Hold yourself responsible and walk as one who is responsible. Don’t blame others for your misfortunes. Learn to make something beautiful even out of the misfortune just as Jidgel saw beauty in a place most others in the Kingdom avoided.
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
Man of the swamp
Man of the fen
Man of the water and reed
Man of his word
Man among men
Meeter of shelter and need
Chorus
Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout
Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?
Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!
Tell me what life is about, to you!
Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!
Show me the way to get through!
Verse
Eater of fish
Drinker of wine
Shorter than average men
Taller in heart!
Taller in mind!
Defender of truth, you’re his friend!
Chorus
Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout
Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?
Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!
Tell me what life is about, to you!
Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!
Show me the way to get through!
Bridge
I can go around but I’d rather go through!
I think that’s what you would do!
Tell me what I know that I know to be true!
Show me the way to get through!
Chorus
Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout
Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?
Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!
Tell me what life is about, to you!

Song Nine
Creatures
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
April 19/20, dysentery 2012
Song History
The evil creatures of Bren represent the things we fear in life. The good creatures represent the things we enjoy and welcome as blessings. We can either be cowered by our fear and accomplish nothing or we can face our fears and conquer them and use them as stepping stones to greater joy and enjoyment in life. As a boy, hemophilia my brothers and cousins spent hours roaming the countryside around our farm – at night! Playing spotlight was a common game. I remember running and hiding and hoping I could find the best hiding place. Often, I found just the right place and could wait for several minutes before the person who was ‘it’ would give up and begin calling out, “Make a noise or I quit!” But at other times, when my hiding place was impenetrable, I found myself alone for quite sometime. Realizing they had given up on finding me, they would stop looking! And the aloneness in that moment of realization sent my mind into panic mode as thoughts of demons and creatures and deviant wild men caused me to set out running through the darkness toward home, chased by unseen creatures. I learned to conquer those fears by facing the truth. There were no creatures there and no one meant me any harm. The older I got, the more I was able to make myself calm down and actually walk casually toward home. Castle Aerie represents home or a secure place. By placing our hope and finding a home in what is true, we alleviate and conquer our fears. Use fear as a motivation to finding the truth…and make your home in that place.
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
Ogres and werewolves and Terrebithians
Hawken and Wolfen and Treesant
Myriad creatures inhabiting Bren
Some of the dark some of light
Swine rats and demons
A unicorn or two
Dragons and various fiends
Myriad creatures inhabiting Bren
Some of the day
Some of night
Chorus
Better watch out!
Better watch out when you pass through
Forest or valley!
Whatever you do!
Better watch out!
Better watch whatever you do!
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?
Verse
Witches and warlocks and men of every race
With just a thin veil in between them
Darkness has no place to go in the light
But always there hiding its face!
Chorus
Better watch out!
Better watch out when you pass through
Forest or valley!
Whatever you do!
Better watch out!
Better watch whatever you do!
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?
Bridge
Tale as old as time!
Day at war with night!
Tale as old as time!
Dark at war with light!
Chorus
Better watch out!
Better watch out when you pass through
Forest or valley!
Whatever you do!
Better watch out!

Song Ten
Chiroptera
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
May 25, erectile 2012
Song History
When my children were young, my mother told them many stories. One of those stories was about a little Native American boy called Falling Rocks. This story began when my mom and dad took my nephew and niece on a trip to Utah. Being very young at the time, my niece and nephew asked why there were so many signs that said ‘Watch For Falling Rocks’ along the mountainside roads. My mom came up with this story: there is a little lost boy named Falling Rocks and his mother has placed those signs there so she can get the public to help her find her little lost son. Not but a few minutes after she came up with this story meant to entertain the children than a little Native American boy in full Native American dress was standing on the roadside. My niece burst into tears and asked her grandparents to stop and help him. My mom told the children that she would stop at the next rest area and call the boy’s mother. The children were beside themselves in panic over helping this boy. At the next stop, my mom made a ‘phone call’ to the boy’s mother, relieving the children of this great burden to help Falling Rocks. As my children heard the story from my mother, the legend only grew! To this day, whenever we see a sign warning of ‘Falling Rocks’ we all laugh and enjoy the memory all over again! I had to use the name Falling Rocks for a character in my book. It seemed appropriate to call the leader of the mountainous dwelling creatures, the Chiroptera, Falling Rocks.
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
Wings like a bat
Face half human
Talons like a bird of prey
Making their abode in the heights of the mountains
Hunt by night
Sleep by day
Chorus
Chiroptera! Chiroptera!
Shadow in the sky overhead!
Chiroptera! Chiroptera!
See them coming, hope they’re well fed!
Like a cloud in the sky on a moonless night
You’re never really sure if you’ve seen one!
Like a storm in the night, you’d better hope it passes by
‘Cause you’re always better off if you never meet one!
Chiroptera! Chiroptera!
Phantom of the air on high!
Chiroptera! Chiroptera!
Better hope they just pass by!
Verse
Preying through the night on owls and fairies
Any creature small and weak
Waiting in the shadows for their unsuspecting victims
Sinking in their jagged teeth!
Chorus
Chiroptera!

Oh!
Oh! Oh! Who can tame a fairy?
Oh! Oh! This will never be!
Oh! Oh! Who can claim a fairy?
Oh! Oh! And catch what can’t be seen?
Chorus
Oh! Lucky if I see one!

Jidgel!
Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!

Better watch whatever you do!
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?
Better be watching, but who’s watching who?

Chiroptera

Chorus
Chiroptera!

Regalion’s Song
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
April 18, gerontologist 2012
Song History
Regalion represents regrets of life. Things I wish I’d said. Things I wish I’d done. Things I wish I could undo. Reality is we cannot ever change our past. We can only move on. When Regalion seeks the forgiveness of his son, Lucian, I felt the book was complete…because seeking forgiveness goes deeper than simply saying one is sorry. One can say they are sorry about their attitudes or actions all day long and never take responsibility for them or make restitution. True forgiveness tears down barriers between people. It is better to take responsibility for our own attitudes and actions than to blame others. As long as we are not willing to make things right our relationships will always suffer. We can wallow in self-pity and stay wounded or we can take responsibility for our own lives and find hope and healing. Which sounds like the better way to live to you? Even our greatest regrets can be seen as stepping-stones to greater wisdom.
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
I thought I had been forgotten
Would never be seen again
So long in this dark dungeon
Most thought I’d come to the end
Betrayed and then belittled
But I was merely a fool
Replacing love with status
Rubbish in place of a jewel
And then I see you and the damage I’ve done
I was so wrong!
Will you forgive me, my son?
Chorus
I can see a little light somewhere in the distance
Somewhere in forgiveness the answer will be known
I can see a little light just there on the horizon
Now I’m realizing I’m not that far from home!
Just to be known by you!
To be loved by you!
Just to be seen right through!
I am home!
Verse
At times life can be a battle
Relationship like a war
Selfishly fought for myself
But what was I fighting for?
This is no way to live life
On top, but what have I gained?
I, by my selfishness, drive what is most precious a-way?
And then I see you and the damage I’ve done
I was so wrong!
Will you forgive me, my son?
Chorus
I can see a little light somewhere in the distance
Somewhere in forgiveness the answer will be known
I can see a little light just there on the horizon
Now I’m realizing I’m not that far from home!
Just to be known by you!
To be loved by you!
Just to be seen right through!
I am home!

Song Seven
Fairies
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
April 18, disorder generic 2012

The Sleeping Giant
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
May 25, visit web 2012
Song History
The Sleeping Giant represents many things in my life. He represents hope and healing and my need for a hero when I was a boy. Nothing has changed. I still need those things! As with the Sleeping Giant, medicine hope is always there – whether we see it or not. My personal belief is that we are all here for a purpose and that there is Someone greater than ourselves out there Who has made us. Life is best spent pursuing to know the One Who put us here in the first place! Just because I could not see hope as a little boy does not mean that hope was not there all along. As I got older I could look back on my life and see that somehow, someway, Someone always got me through! If you need hope or direction, it is there. You just have to seek it. When you seek it you will find it – so seek with all your heart!
Dennis Jernigan
Verse
I see him lying there
This sleeping giant
Reuben from the days of old
I wish he would spring up
Onto his feet alive
And free the land of evil’s hold.
But it’s only just a dream
Like a story meant for children
Fairy tale and legend gone by
But it doesn’t hurt to dream if by dreaming
We believe in the hope of a rescued life!
Chorus
Reuben! Reuben!
Wake from your sleep!
Bren lies in darkness!
Hear how she weeps!
Reuben! Reuben!
We need a champion!
We need a hero!
Wake up from your ancient sleep!
Verse
If you can hear me now
We need your help, sir
Seems darkness rules the day
If you can hear me now
Wake from your slumber!
Drive the darkness far a-way!
But it’s only just a dream
Like a story meant for children
Fairy tale and legend gone by
But it doesn’t hurt to dream if by dreaming
We believe in the hope of a rescued life!
Chorus
Reuben! Reuben!
Wake from your sleep!
Bren lies in darkness!
Hear how she weeps!
Reuben! Reuben!
We need a champion!
We need a hero!
Wake up from your ancient sleep!
